Ode to a gorilla: Kong, 2015
The world of soundtracks seemed fascinating to me. Steiner, Barry, Effman, Morricone, etc., etc.
In fact, some of my previous works move along those lines of incidental music.
Kong was an interesting proposal, reinterpreting Barry's work for the 1970s film. But Kong was more than that; it was a tribute to Fossey, to respect for animals in the wild, and to their conservation.
When I saw Kong, I was barely ten years old. You can imagine the effect it had on me, which still resonates in my nightmares today.
Like the soundtrack, the work runs parallel to the plot. With a predominantly orchestral character,
On a personal level, my desire to continue my education blossomed again. Kong was an incentive to begin my studies at the Thinkspace Academy in film scoring, as mentioned above. The language was a barrier to making the most of that opportunity under the guidance of the unique Guy Michelmore. My professors praised me with their comments on some of my work and gave me the push I needed.
At the same time, I began a degree in Music at UNIR, filling the gap that had settled over me. I was so interested in it that I actively participated in info rums, researched, and used all the available material, despite poor visual conditions and a personal background filled with pessimism, hopelessness, and depression.
My course tutors were aware of all that, swimming against the current, and I thank them for their support during such a difficult time. Not everyone understood it or knew it exactly. The degree was extended for a few more years, and I will return to it to talk about my return to Recife,Brazil.
